Vikings can't overcome early deficit against Concordia

APPLETON, Wis. -- The Lawrence University women's hockey team couldn't overcome an early deficit Saturday and fell 6-1 to Concordia University Wisconsin in a Northern Collegiate Hockey Association game at the Appleton Family Ice Center.
Concordia scored twice in the first five minutes and then added two goals in a two-minute span later in the period to pull out to a 4-1 edge after the opening period. Lawrence limited the damage after that as the Falcons scored just once in both the second and third periods.
Lawrence goaltender Katie Jablynski made 36 saves as she played the first and third periods, and Sydney Seeley stopped 16 shots in the second period for the Vikings. Shea Peterson made 19 saves to pick up the win for Concordia (7-7-0, 4-2-0 NCHA).
Ally Hull scored twice for Concordia in the opening period and picked up the game's first goal. Concordia led 2-0 when the Vikings cut the lead in half midway through the first period. Lindsey Gulliksen connected with Lauren Askenazy on a beautiful pass down the middle, and Askenazy beat Peterson at the 10:33 mark to trim the margin to 2-1. Lauren Moravchik also picked up an assist on that goal.
The Falcons then scored at 12:39 and 14:24 to push the lead to 4-1, but Lawrence (0-6-0, 0-6-0) really frustrated Concordia the rest of the way.
Seeley came on in relief of Jablynski in the second period and stopped all but one shot in the period as Concordia scored on the power play. Jablynski returned in the third period and stopped 21 of 22 shots over the final 20 minutes.
