Vikings can't catch Northland

ASHLAND, Wis. -- The Lawrence University women's hockey team dropped a 4-1 nonconference decision to Northland College on Friday at the Bay Area Civic Center.
Northland broke open a tight game with two third-period goals.
The Lumberjills led 1-0 after scoring a goal midway through the opening period. McKenna Freerksen scored her second goal of the night 3:26 into the second period to give Northland a 2-0 edge.
The Vikings cut the lead in half when Gigi Wood scored her first career goal. After Northland's Clara Schmiesing was sent off for holding at 14:15 of the second, Lawrence quickly cashed in. Wood scored on the power play at 14:48 off assists from Delaney Kingsland and Emma Perry to trim the lead to 2-1.
Lawrence went 1-for-3 on the power play, and Northland was 0-for-4.
The score stayed that way until Yvonne Durfee scored at 7:10 of the third, and Elle Black added another goal for the Lumberjills at 12:48.
Charlie Prior made 32 saves for the Vikings, and Teagen Johnson stopped 18 shots for Northland.
The team wrap up the series on Saturday afternoon.
