Vikings edged by St. Catherine

ST. PAUL, Minn. -- The Lawrence University women's hockey team was edged 3-2 by St. Catherine University in a nonconference game Saturday at Drake Arena.
The Vikings trailed early, tied the game, fell behind by two and nearly made it all the way back against the unbeaten Wildcats.
Lindsey Gulliksen and Laney Martens scored for the Vikings, and Charlie Prior put together another fine game in goal.
St. Catherine's scored 6:14 into the game, but the Vikings tied it before the first period was over. Gulliksen scored her first goal of the season off a pass from Lauren Askenazy at the 16:58 mark, and the game was tied 1-1 heading to the second period.
The Wildcats scored twice in the first 7:50 of the second to take a 3-1 lead, but Lawrence would keep them off the board the rest of the way.
Lawrence (0-4-0) closed to 3-2 with 6:23 left in the third on Laney Martens' first goal of the season. The Vikings pulled Prior for the final 1:14 but couldn't get the equalizer.
Prior finished with 34 saves, and Abby Severson made 14 saves for St. Catherine (4-0-0).
Both teams came up empty on the power play as Lawrence went 0-for-3 and St. Catherine was 0-for-2.
