APPLETON, Wis. -- The Lawrence University women's hockey team settled for a nonconference series split on Sunday with a 2-1 setback to Northland College at the Community First Champion Center.
The Vikings posted a 3-1 victory in the series opener on Saturday.
Lawrence trailed 2-0 midway through the second period before
Lauren Askenazy scored her third goal of the season after a scramble in front of the net. Her goal at the 15:50 mark cut the deficit in half, but Lawrence couldn't complete the comeback.
The Vikings got an early power play in the third period when Joey Schemenauer was sent off for slashing. Lawrence failed to cash in, and the Vikings were forced to kill off three penalties later in the period. Lawrence went 0-for-3 on the power play, and Northland was 1-for-7.
  Lawrence pulled goaltender
Sarah Dobrzynski with just over two minutes remaining but had to put her back on the ice after Northland forced a faceoff outside the Lawrence blue line.Â
The Vikings won control of the puck and again pulled Dobrzynski for an extra attacker. Lawrence peppered Northland goaltender Karlee Lehner in the final minute but couldn't get the equalizer.
Northland scored at the 6:21 mark of the first and at the 9:08 mark of the second to build its advantage.
Dobrzynski made 29 saves for Lawrence, and Lehner stopped 25 shots for Northland.
