Vikings fall in OT in season opener versus Saints

DULUTH, Minn. — The Lawrence University women's hockey team battled St. Scholastica through 60 minutes of scoreless hockey Friday night before falling 1-0 in overtime at Mars Lakeview Arena.

Goaltender Sarah Dobrzynski turned in an outstanding performance between the pipes, stopping all 17 shots she faced in the opening period. St. Scholastica controlled much of the early offensive pressure, but Lawrence's defensive effort kept the Saints off the scoreboard.

The Vikings continued to withstand pressure in the second period as the Saints added 13 shots on goal. Lawrence generated eight shots of its own, but neither team was able to find the back of the net.

Dobrzynski remained sharp in the third period, turning aside all 18 shots St. Scholastica put on goal to send the contest into overtime. The Vikings continued to battle defensively, keeping the game scoreless through regulation.

The extra period lasted just 22 seconds, however, as Morgan Mitchell found the back of the net for St. Scholastica to secure the 1-0 victory.

Dobrzynski finished with 48 saves in the contest. Thea Lothe led Lawrence with five shots on goal, while Leina Quiniou added three. Addison Carlstrom recorded three blocked shots, and Sullivan Gillis won 11 faceoffs.

Lawrence finished with 18 shots on goal compared to 49 for St. Scholastica.
