Vikings fall to Falcons on the road

MEQUON, Wis. — Lawrence fell to Concordia University Wisconsin, 3-0, on Saturday at Ozaukee Ice Center. Concordia, with a commanding 48 shots on goal, maintained their unbeaten conference record.

Lawrence began the first period on the defensive, with Annika Solberg making multiple saves to keep the Falcons at bay. Despite several offensive attempts, including shots from Ashley Slupe and Kate Holtz, the Vikings were unable to capitalize early in the period. The team showed resilience in faceoff wins, led by Emma Perry and Meg Landman, maintaining competitive possession.

However, the Falcons managed to break through at the 17:50 mark with a goal by Mackaylan McGown, assisted by Naomi Black and Abby Hansberger. Lawrence's defense, highlighted by blocked shots from Josie Daly, Sophia Labrecque, and Reese Deibert, helped limit further damage. The period ended with Lawrence trailing 1-0.

The second period opened with Concordia maintaining offensive pressure early on, but Solberg stood firm in goal, making multiple saves to keep the Vikings in contention. Despite facing a barrage of attempts, Solberg consistently denied scoring opportunities, including a critical save after an opposing shot hit the pipe.

Lawrence's defense played a crucial role, with Evelyn Pryadkin and Daly blocking several shots, thwarting the Falcons' efforts to break through. The period concluded without a change in the score, as both teams remained locked in a scoreless tie heading into the final period.

The third period began with Lawrence winning the initial faceoff, as Perry secured possession. Concordia applied early pressure, but key defensive blocks from Slupe and Pryadkin, along with saves by Solberg, kept the Vikings in the contest. Despite several attempts, Concordia broke through at 8:16 with a goal by Black, extending their lead.

In response, the Vikings went on a power play following a tripping penalty against Concordia at 5:50. Lawrence opted for an empty net to increase offensive pressure, but could not capitalize on the man advantage. The Falcons sealed the game with an empty-net goal from Black, and took home the victory over the Vikings.Ā
