DE PERE, Wis. — The Lawrence University women's cross country team opened its 2026 season with a strong third-place finish Saturday at the Tom Barry Invitational hosted by St. Norbert College.
The Vikings finished with 102 team points, trailing only Ripon and St. Norbert in the seven-team field. Lawrence edged Wisconsin Lutheran by two points for third place.
Griyan Hughland led the way for Lawrence in her collegiate debut, finishing fifth overall on the 5-kilometer course in 19:57.85. Hughland was the top NCAA Division III finisher behind Ripon's Joley Berger and three runners from Green Bay.
Lydia Shaney was the next Viking across the line, placing 33rd overall in 21:35.10, while Laura Henze followed two spots later in 35th with a time of 21:41.99.
Ella Nichelson finished 41st in 21:56.42, and Annabelle Gerrits rounded out Lawrence's scoring five with a time of 22:49.14.
