What Being a Viking Means to Me:
Being a Lawrence athlete was foundational for me. The balance of academics with tough workouts in the pool kept me well-rounded. Swim and track practice provided a mental break from school work and a time to unwind and release some intense physical energy, as well as to laugh and have fun with some of my closest LU friends. Swim practice ended later in the evening and we swimmers were some of the last people to enter Downer Hall for our dinners. Sitting around and chatting with dripping or nearly-frozen hair while eating seemingly endless soft serve cones (so many) was a huge bright spot in my day! I am still close with many of my swimming and track friends and absolutely developed values of excelling physically and working together to achieve as a team. Recently, and especially during the pandemic, fitness and sport has helped me persevere and carry on when things weren’t going as planned. It is also wonderful to nourish these traits in my daughters as they grow through sports and teamwork.
