Sean Stokes ’86 returns to Lawrence University as Defensive Coordinator, bringing nearly 40 years of experience in education, coaching, and football leadership throughout Wisconsin.
A former standout player for the Vikings, Stokes has dedicated much of his professional career to developing student-athletes both on and off the field. His extensive coaching background includes serving as Varsity Defensive Coordinator at Oregon High School and Head Football Coach at Stoughton High School, where he built a reputation for disciplined, fundamentally sound defenses and strong player development.
In addition to his work on the football field, Stokes has spent decades as an educator and mentor. His experience working with students, including supporting at-risk youth and leading football camps and instructional programs, reflects a commitment to helping young people succeed academically, athletically, and personally.
Stokes' return to Lawrence represents a homecoming to the institution that helped shape his own collegiate experience. As Defensive Coordinator, he oversees all aspects of the Vikings' defensive unit, focusing on player development, game planning, and creating a culture of accountability, toughness, and teamwork.
A Lawrence graduate and former Viking football standout, Stokes combines a deep understanding of the University's values with decades of coaching expertise. His leadership and experience provide a strong foundation as he helps guide the next generation of Lawrence football student-athletes.
