Tate Whitlinger enters his first season as Head Men’s and Women’s Tennis Coach at Lawrence University after being appointed to the position in 2026.

Whitlinger brings nearly 30 years of coaching, teaching, and leadership experience to the Vikings program. Known for his commitment to player development and relationship building, he has spent his career helping athletes grow both on the court and as individuals while fostering a culture centered on excellence, sportsmanship, and personal growth.

Since 1999, Whitlinger has served as Head Tennis Professional at Fox Cities Racquet Club, where he has overseen daily tennis operations and worked with players of all ages and skill levels through private instruction, clinics, group training, and competitive development programs. His impact on the Fox Valley tennis community has made him one of the area's most respected and recognizable tennis professionals.

Whitlinger is no stranger to Lawrence Athletics. Prior to being named head coach, he served as an assistant coach with the Vikings, including during the 2025-26 season. He also spent nearly a decade as Head Tennis Coach at St. Mary Catholic High School, guiding student-athletes to sectional and state-level competition while emphasizing discipline, teamwork, and character development.

In addition to his coaching experience, Whitlinger is a USTA Tournament Director, a USPTA Certified Teaching Professional, a USPTA Certified Pickleball Teaching Professional, and a Safe Play Certified Coach.

A standout player in his own right, Whitlinger starred at Neenah High School, helping lead the Rockets to three consecutive state team championships. He captured a state doubles championship and finished as runner-up in the state singles tournament before continuing his collegiate career at both the University of Wisconsin and the University of Wisconsin-Green Bay.

As a tennis professional, Whitlinger earned numerous accolades, including USPTA Midwest Men's Open Player of the Year, USPTA Midwest Rookie of the Year, and the USPTA International Men's Open Championship.

As head coach, Whitlinger oversees all aspects of the Lawrence men's and women's tennis programs, including student-athlete development, recruiting, program operations, and competitive success. His deep ties to the Fox Valley tennis community, combined with his passion for Lawrence University, position him to continue building a championship-caliber experience for Viking student-athletes.
