Vikings rally for five-set victory at Lake Forest

LAKE FOREST, Ill. -- The Lawrence University volleyball team won the final two sets Saturday to pull out a 3-2 Midwest Conference victory at Lake Forest College.

Lawrence defeated the Foresters 25-20, 23-25, 19-25, 26-24, 15-11.

Arianna Neumeyer had a match-high 13 kills and piled up a match-best 34 digs to pace the Vikings (10-13, 5-2 MWC). Arianna Cohen added 12 kills for the Vikings.

Sydney Nelson led Lawrence with 23 assists, and Ashley Camling added 10. Cohen and Addisyn Gerber led the Vikings with three blocks apiece.

Lake Forest (8-13, 1-4) grabbed a 2-1 edge after winning the second and third sets. In the fourth set, Lawrence looked to be in control after Nelson's kill gave the Vikings a 24-19 lead. The Foresters then rattled off five consecutive points to tie the set at 24-24. A service error gave the Vikings a 25-24 lead, and Alyssa Peterson's kill gave Lawrence the set.

The Vikings then jumped on Lake Forest in the final set. Lawrence pulled out to a 9-2 lead, but the Foresters won six straight points to pull within 9-8.

The Vikings rebuilt the lead back to 13-10 before getting a kill from Peterson and a block from Nelson to close out the set and the match.
