Lawrence falls to Muskies

APPLETON, Wis. -- The Lawrence University women's basketball team dropped a 66-46 nonconference game to Lakeland University on Thursday at Alexander Gymnasium.

Kenya Earl poured in a game-high 20 points to pace Lawrence. Leah Reeves added eight points and a game-high 13 rebounds for the Vikings.

Lakeland jumped out to an 11-point lead in the first quarter, but the Vikings battled back early in the second. Lawrence (0-2) scored six consecutive points on a Reeves layup, an Earl free throw and an Erin Hill 3-pointer to trim the advantage to 25-20 with 6:10 left in the first half.

Lakeland responded by scoring the game's next nine points to push the margin to 34-20. Lawrence scored the final four points of the first half as Earl hit a pair of free throws and Reeves got a putback to cut the margin to 36-26 at the half.

The Vikings couldn't get any closer than 10 points the during the second half, but they did make several runs at Lakeland. The Muskies had a 19-point edge in the third quarter, but Lawrence trimmed that to 15 to keep contact with Lakeland.

Earl's layup with 1:18 left in the fourth quarter cut the lead to 61-46 before Lakeland pulled away for the final margin.

Megan Will led Lakeland (2-0) with 14 points and nine rebounds. Abby Nylund added 13 points, and Hayley Walding had nine points and five assists for the Muskies.
