Green Knights stop Lawrence to win quarterfinal playoff series

ASHWAUBENON, Wis. -- Second-ranked St. Norbert College pulled away in the second period Saturday and went on to a 3-1 victory over Lawrence University to win the Northern Collegiate Hockey Association quarterfinal playoff series at the Cornerstone Community Center.

St. Norbert won the series 2-0-0 after posting an identical 3-1 victory on Friday night.

Three different players scored for the Green Knights (22-4-1), who took a 1-0 lead on Roman Unchyn's power-play goal at the 14:26 mark of the first period. St. Norbert went 1-for-4 on the man-advantage.

With both teams skating a man down after matching minors midway through the second period, St. Norbert made it 2-0 on Dominick Sacco's goal at the 12:36 mark. Luke Karakas then scored just 2:19 later to give the Green Knights a 3-0 lead.

Lawrence (10-15-2) finally got on the board with a power-play goal in the third period. After William Yates was whistled for contact to the head, Lane King cashed in for the Vikings with a goal at the 14:01 mark.

The Vikings pulled goaltender Evan Cline for the final 1:23 but couldn't pull any closer. Cline made 27 saves and took the loss. T.J. Black stopped 18 shots to pick up the win.
