Vikings downed by Adrian

ADRIAN, Mich. -- Lawrence University's Zach Lodes scored twice Saturday, but the Vikings fell 5-2 to No. 14 Adrian College in a Northern Collegiate Hockey Association game at Arrington Ice Arena.

Lodes got the first multi-goal game of his career as he scored to open the game and added a power-play tally in the third period.

Lodes scored off a pass from Ivan Galaguzov with 5:53 left in the opening period to put the Vikings (5-13-1, 4-9-1 NCHA) up 1-0. Adrian's Andrew Bellant scored with 2:04 left to tie the game at 1-1.

The Bulldogs (11-5-3, 9-3-2) then scored twice in a span of 38 seconds in the second period. Adrian scored at the 4:23 mark and the 5:01 mark to grab a 3-1 edge.

Bellant scored on the power play at the 5:55 mark of the third to put Adrian up 4-1. Lodes struck back for the Vikings on the power play as he scored off a pass from Brandon Halvorsen with 4:08 remaining to cut the lead to 4-2.

Both teams went 1-for-5 on the power play.

Lawrence pulled goaltender Evan Cline for a stretch of 1:45 in an attempt to get closer, but Adrian picked up an empty-net goal with 31 seconds left to complete the scoring.

Cline stopped 47 shots for the Vikings, and Cameron Gray made 27 saves for Adrian.
