Sarancic pours in 19 as Vikings top Northland

ASHLAND, Wis. -- Adnan Sarancic came off the bench to score 19 points Saturday and led the Lawrence University men's basketball team to an 81-66 nonconference win over Northland College.
It also was the first collegiate coaching victory for Lawrence first-year head coach Casey Korn.
Sarancic went 9-for-12 from the floor and pulled down eight rebounds for the Vikings (1-2). Brad Sendell had a big game for the Vikings with 18 points, nine assists, four rebounds and three steals.
Matthew Kaznikov added 11 points for Lawrence, and Elliot Jung had 10 points.
Lawrence built a 42-34 lead at the half, but the Lumberjacks scored the first nine points of the second half to grab a 43-42 advantage. Kaznikov then buried a 3-pointer for the Vikings to start an 11-3 run. Sendell scored seven consecutive points during that stretch as the Vikings snatched a 53-45 lead with 11:27 remaining.
George Butvilas, who led Northland (0-4) with 19 points, countered with a 3-pointer for the Lumberjacks. Sarancic followed with a layup, and Kyle Lilliwitz drained a 3-pointer to push Lawrence's lead to 58-48.
Northland cut the lead back to 60-56, but Sendell hit a 3-pointer and followed that with a layup to give Lawrence a 65-56 lead with 5:51 left. Lawrence built the lead to as many as 16 points before claiming the final margin of 15.
Lawrence returns home to face UW-Oshkosh on Wednesday.
