Vikings can't get past Loras

DUBUQUE, Iowa -- The Lawrence University men's basketball team dropped a 101-83 nonconference decision on Thursday to host Loras College in the Holiday Classic.
The Vikings posted a 1-1 record at the event, posting a victory over St. Scholastica in the opening game on Wednesday.
Elliot Jung scored a career-high 23 points to lead four Vikings in double figures. Jung went 8-for-12 from the floor, including 2-for-4 from 3-point range. Jung also grabbed five rebounds and picked up three assists.
Jake Fisher came off the bench for Lawrence (6-7) to score 16 points as he went 6-for-8 from the floor, including 3-for-5 from beyond the arc. Matthew Kaznikov added 15 points and a game-high seven rebounds for the Vikings.
Lawrence's Brad Sendell added 14 points, a game-high seven assists and three steals.  Sendell now has 1,305 points for his career as he became the seventh player in Lawrence history to score more than 1,300 points. He moved past Adam LaVoy (1,273) on the career scoring list during the tournament and his 38 points away from Doug Fyfe, who is sixth on the career list with 1,342.
Rowan McGowen led Loras (10-2) and all scorers with 32 points. The Duhawks shot 56.9 percent from the floor for the game.
Lawrence trimmed Loras' lead to 22-19 on Jung's layup with 10:38 left in the first half, but the Duhawks went on a 30-15 run over the remainder of the half to build a 52-34 lead at the break.
The Duhawks led by as many as 23 points at 57-34 early in the second half before Lawrence began chipping away at the lead.
The Vikings scored 10 consecutive points as Kaznikov drained a 3-pointer, Jung and Adnan Sarancic scored on layups and Sendell finished the burst with a conventional three-point play to cut the lead to 60-47 with 15:53 left.
Lawrence continued to chip away and trimmed the lead to single digits on Brandon Danowski's putback made the score 66-58 with 11:00 left. Loras scored the next six points to grab a 72-58 lead, and the Duhawks were able to keep the Vikings at arm's length the rest of the way.
Lawrence pulled to within 11 points late but couldn't draw any closer.
The Vikings return to action on Jan. 4 when Lawrence hosts Monmouth College.
