APPLETON, Wis. -- The Lawrence University men's basketball team got big games from
Brad Sendell and
Matthew Kaznikov en route to an 81-70 Midwest Conference victory over Knox College on Wednesday at Alexander Gymnasium.
  Sendell poured in a game-high 23 points and added five rebounds, four assists, three steals and a block for the Vikings. Kaznikov finished with 19 points as he went 4-for-7 from 3-point range and added four rebounds.
  Lawrence (3-4, 2-1 MWC) also got 11 points from
Elliot Jung, who went 5-for-8 from the floor.
Adnan Sarancic picked up nine points and nine rebounds for the Vikings, and
Brandon Danowski had nine points and a game-high six assists to go with two rebounds.
  Lawrence was up 36-30 late in the first half when the Vikings scored seven consecutive points, five coming from Kaznikov on a layup and a 3-pointer, to build a 43-30 advantage. Lawrence led 43-32 at the break.
  Knox whittled the lead down to 54-50 with 10:04 remaining, but the Vikings got back-to-back 3-pointers from Danowski and Sendell to push the advantage back to 60-50 with 8:56 left. The Prairie Fire then pulled to within 62-55, but Sendell got a fastbreak layup, Kaznikov buried a 3-pointer and Sendell sank a pair of free throws to expand the advantage to 69-55 with 5:05 left.
  Knox got as close as eight points three times in the final minutes, but Sendell answered the first challenge with a driving layup. Sendell then drained two free throws the second time, and Kaznikov scored on a fastbreak layup on a touchdown pass from Danowski the last time. Larwence led 75-65 at that point with 1:28 remaining.
  Sendell then closed out the victory by going 4-for-4 from the foul line in the last 30 seconds. Sendell went 9-for-9 from the line in the game, and the Vikings were 16-for-21 from the stripe. The Vikings made exactly twice as many free throws as Knox attempted.
  Duane Goodman led Knox (3-4, 1-1) with 18 points.
  Lawrence returns to action on Saturday when the Vikings make the long trip to Illinois College.
