CHICAGO, Ill. -- The Lawrence University baseball team got some late inning heroics in both games Tuesday to sweep a Midwest Conference doubleheader from the University of Chicago at J. Kyle Anderson Field.
Lawrence took the opener 8-3 and downed the Maroons 5-4 in the nightcap.
  In the first game,
Spenser Ross went 3-for-3 and scored a pair of runs to pace Lawrence's 13-hit attack.
Zach Leslie went 2-for-2 and drove in two runs for the Vikings, and
Ethan Plantz was 2-for-3.Â
The game was tied 3-3 heading to the top of the ninth, and there were two outs when Plantz and
Luke Miles both singled to start the rally. David Clarke came on in relief for Chicago and walked Ross to load the bases.Â
 Â
Clayton Agler then smacked a bases-clearing triple into the gap in left-center field to give the Vikings a 6-3 lead.
Quinn Berglin followed with a double to score Agler and Lawrence (8-4, 2-2 MWC) led 7-3. Leslie followed with a single and Berglin scored for an 8-3 edge.
 Â
Elden Santana worked the bottom of the ninth and retired the Maroons in order to finish the game.
Lawrence took a 1-0 lead in the second when starting pitcher
Preston Anderson homered to lead off the frame. Anderson left the game after three innings with an injury.
Chicago (5-6, 0-2) tied the game in the third, but Lawrence took the lead back in the fifth.
Stephaune Haylock walked and stole second, and
Mitchell Sandleback followed with a single to put runners at the corners. The Vikings executed a double steal, and Haylock scored on the play for a 2-1 lead.
The Maroons tied it at 2-2 in the bottom half of the inning, but Lawrence grabbed the lead back in the eighth. Ross walked and later scored on Leslie's single for a 3-2 edge. Chicago tied it in the bottom half of the inning before Lawrence pulled away in the ninth.
 Â
Jordan Schaefer tossed five innings of relief to get the win for the Vikings. He allowed two runs on four hits, struck out four and didn't walk a batter.
In the second game, Lawrence scored in three of the last four innings to grab the victory.
Ross went 2-for-4 and was the only Lawrence player with multiple hits, but Berglin, Leslie and Sandleback all homered for Lawrence.
The Vikings trailed 1-0 when Berglin belted a solo homer to tie the game in the fourth. Chicago then pushed the lead to 3-1 through five innings.
Leslie then smacked his first collegiate homer, a two-out, two-run round-tripper in the sixth, to tie the game at 3-3. Sandleback then hit his first homer at Lawrence, a solo shot in the seventh, to put Lawrence up 4-3. The Vikings then manufactured a run in the eighth as they loaded the bases on a pair of errors and a hit batsman. Plantz then drew a bases-loaded walk and Lawrence led 5-3.
Chicago scratched out a run in the bottom of the eighth, but Santana, who was on in relief, struck out the final two batters in the inning to end the threat. Berglin then worked around a single in the ninth to record his first collegiate save.
 Â
Michael Duttlinger pitched the first six innings to get the win for the Vikings. He allowed three runs on seven hits, struck out three and walked two.Â
Lawrence returns to action on Saturday when the Vikings host Ripon College at Whiting Field. Â
