APPLETON, Wis. -- The Lawrence University baseball team earned a Midwest Conference doubleheader split with the University of Chicago on Sunday at Whiting Field.
   After the Maroons won the opener 12-2, the Vikings led 7-5 after six innings in the nightcap when Mother Nature intervened. A pair of thunderstorms rolled through Appleton and the game ended.
   In the second game,
Clayton Agler led Lawrence's attack by going 2-for-4 with a triple and three runs batted in. Lawrence rookie
Jake Land went 2-for-3, blasted his first career homer, and finished with two RBIs and two runs scored.
Quinn Berglin went 2-for-4 with a double and two RBIs for the Vikings (12-14, 5-11 MWC).

Jonah Palmer tossed 5.2 innings for the Vikings to earn the victory. He allowed six hits and four earned runs while striking out three and walking three.
   Lawrence scored single runs in each of the first four innings, and the game was tied 4-4 after four. Lawrence trailed 4-3 heading to the bottom of the fourth when Land took the first offering from David Clarke and hit a booming home run to left to tie the game.
   Chicago (12-7, 7-3) grabbed the lead in the top of the sixth as the Maroons manufactured a run without the benefit of a hit to take a 5-4 lead.
   The Vikings struck back against reliever Grant Stone in the bottom half of the sixth.
Mitchell Sandleback and
Colin Wieska both walked before Land singled to score Sandleback and tie the game at 5-5. After a strikeout, Agler lined a triple into the left field corner to score both Wieska and Land and put the Vikings up 7-5.
   The thunderstorms moved in a short time later to end the game. Â
   In the opener, Land went 2-for-4 with a double, and Agler was 2-for-4 and drove in a run for the Vikings.
   Chicago starter Michael Allegri went eight innings, allowed five hits, struck out seven and didn't walk a batter.
Michael Duttlinger pitched six innings for the Vikings, allowed six hits, struck out 10 and walked two.
   The Maroons built a 5-2 after five innings and pulled away with three runs in the eighth and four more in the ninth.
