Lawrence falls twice at Beloit

BELOIT, Wis. -- The Lawrence University baseball team's offense was handcuffed Sunday as the Vikings dropped a pair of Midwest Conference games at Beloit College.
Beloit won the opener 7-1 after breaking open a close game late and took the nightcap 10-0 in seven innings.
In the opener, Jake Land went 2-for-2 with a homer and a double for the Vikings, and Quinn Berglin was 2-for-4.
Land gave Lawrence a 1-0 lead when he homered to lead off the third inning. Beloit tied it with a run in the bottom of the fourth and added two more in the fifth for a 3-1 advantage. The Bucs (21-3, 16-2 MWC) finally pulled away with four runs in the bottom of the eighth.
Michael Duttlinger scattered eight hits over seven innings but took the loss. Thomas Kosakowski allowed seven hits over seven innings to get the win for Beloit.
In the second game, Beloit starter Matthew Starr allowed just five hits over seven innings to get the shutout. He struck out five and walked one. No Lawrence player had more than one hit, and the only extra-base hit was Zach Leslie's double.
Beloit scored three runs in the second and added five more in the third to pull away. Jonah Palmer allowed six earned runs over three innings and took the loss for Lawrence (12-18, 5-15).
