APPLETON, Wis. --
Samantha Tolu's late goal for the Lawrence University women's soccer team forced overtime Monday with UW-Oshkosh, and the nonconference contest ended in a 1-1 tie on Ron Roberts Field at the Banta Bowl.
Tolu took a pass from
Ellie Younger and worked free to beat Oshkosh goalkeeper Emma Sauriol for a 1-1 tie at 79:26. Oshkosh had taken a 1-0 lead on Piper Green's goal at the 10:29 mark.
The game went to overtime, and Oshkosh had the best chance in the first 10-minute extra session when Rylie Kaufmann hit the post as she got free down the right side of the Lawrence defense.
Lawrence had the better of the second overtime period as the Vikings generated multiple scoring threats but were unable to squeeze off any shots on goal.
Lawrence goalkeeper
Sarah Yochem made two saves for the Vikings and also turned in multiple plays where she was able to clear the ball or thwart Oshkosh scoring chances before a shot could be taken. Sauriol did not make a save for the Titans, who are now 7-2-1.
Lawrence, which posted back-to-back wins over the Titans in 1998 and 1999, snapped Oshkosh's 12-game unbeaten streak in the rivalry. Lawrence is the first Midwest Conference school this season to play to a tie with a team from the powerful Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference. The league had been 0-5-0 against the WIAC prior to Monday's game.
Lawrence, which improved to 5-4-1, returns to Midwest Conference play when the Vikings travel to Illinois College on Saturday.
