Vikings toppled at Finlandia

HANCOCK, Mich. -- The Lawrence University women's hockey team dropped a 5-1 Northern Collegiate Hockey Association decision to Finlandia University on Friday at Houghton County Arena.
Finlandia jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the second period and stymied the Vikings after that.
Lawrence (0-15-0, 0-8-0 NCHA) got on the board late in the second period. Lauren Moravchik scored her first goal of the season when she took a pass from Delaney Kingsland and beat Finlandia goaltender Kayla Savoie-Penton with 1:25 remaining in the second period to trim the lead to 4-1.
The Vikings had a pair of power-play chances in the first 10 minutes of the third period but couldn't cash in to close the deficit. The Vikings were 0-for-5 on the power play, and the Lions were 1-for-5.
Finlandia added a late goal for the final margin.
Savoie-Penton made 14 saves for Finlandia (1-14-1, 1-8-0). Charlie Prior started for the Vikings and made 30 saves in the first two periods while allowing four goals. Maeve Tallman played the final period and stopped 15 shots while allowing one goal.
The teams wrap up the series on Saturday night.
