APPLETON, Wis. -- The Lawrence University women's hockey team put together a big third-period comeback on Saturday, but UW-Superior pulled out a 3-2 overtime win over the Vikings at the Appleton Ice Center.
Lawrence trailed 2-0 heading into the third, but the young Vikings scored twice to force the five-minute, 3-on-3 overtime. Superior scored 46 seconds into the overtime to post the victory.
The Yellowjackets scored once in the opening period and once in the second to lead 2-0 after two, but the Vikings battled back.Â
Superior's Emma Booth was whistled for cross checking at 5:45, and that put the Vikings on the power play in the third. Just over a minute later, Sofia Alvarez took a pass from
Molly Jastrab and scored at 6:50 to trim the margin to 2-1. Lawrence finished the game 1-for-5 on the power play, and Superior was 1-for-4.
 Â
Delaney Kingsland tied it at 2-2 for the Vikings at 13:07 when she scored off assists from Alvarez and
Lauren Askenazy.Â
Both teams had chances in the final minutes but neither would score for the remainder of regulation.
The Yellowjackets controlled the puck off the opening faceoff of overtime, but an errant shot gave the puck back to Lawrence. Superior broke up a play near their own blue line, and Jenna Hoops scored for Superior to end it.
Charlie Prior finished with 32 saves for the Vikings, and Molly Black stopped 22 shots for Superior.
