MONMOUTH, Ill. -- The Lawrence University women's soccer team needed a win Saturday at Monmouth College to punch its ticket to the Midwest Conference Tournament.Â
The Vikings got help earlier in the day when Beloit College knocked off Cornell College 1-0, opening the door for the Vikings. Win and they were in. Anything less and the Vikings would miss the tournament.
Lawrence led 2-0 at halftime, but Monmouth scored twice in the second half and the game finished in a 2-2 tie.Â
The Vikings jumped on top early as Paige Ference scored her first goal of the season off an assist by Erica Grube at the 11:47 mark.Â
Lawrence doubled the lead to 2-0 at the 36:54 mark when Natalie Linebarger scored her fourth goal of the season.Â
Monmouth then scored two goals in less than two minutes early in the second half. The Scots scored at 52:23 and again at 54:05 and it was a 2-2 game. Monmouth had just one shot the rest of the game.
The Vikings peppered Beloit with 10 shots from that point of the contest but none found the back of the net. Lawrence had a 21-7 edge in shots for the match.
  Lawrence goalkeeper
Sarah Yochem left the match at the 15-minute mark after making one save. Ella Lysne played the rest of the contest and recorded two saves.Â
