KENOSHA, Wis. -- The Lawrence University women's basketball team rallied but came up short Friday in a 63-52 nonconference loss to Carthage College at Tarble Arena.
The Vikings cut a double-digit halftime deficit to just one point in the third quarter, but Carthage recovered and held on for the victory.
 Â
Mallory Meyer scored 19 points to lead Lawrence (1-3) and added five rebounds.
Emma Carlson added 12 points and seven rebounds for the Vikings.
Maggie Culver, who was chosen for the all-tournament team, grabbed a game-high 11 rebounds to go with eight points for the Vikings. Lawrence rookie
Tanner Bost came off the bench to add nine points and four rebounds.
The difference in the game came from beyond the 3-point line where Carthage connected on 11-of-31 shots while the Vikings were just 3-of-19 on 3-pointers.
Carthage (1-3) built a 29-19 lead at the half, but the Vikings quickly sliced into that advantage in the second half. Meyer started a run of nine consecutive points with a layup, and Culver followed with a jumper. After Carlson connected on a layup, Meyer drained a 3-pointer to cut Carthage's lead to 29-28 with 6:28 left in the third quarter.
After Carthage pushed the lead back to five, the Vikings got a 3-pointer from Bost to cut the lead to 33-32.Â
Carthage scored the final three points of the third quarter and led 40-34 heading to the fourth quarter. Two quick Carthage baskets to start the fourth quarter pushed the lead to 44-34, but the Vikings chipped away. Jumpers from Carlson and
Delaney Brooks trimmed the lead to 49-44, but back-to-back Carthage 3-pointers increased the lead to 55-44 and sealed the victory.
Lauren Knight led Carthage with 17 points.
Lawrence returns to action on Nov. 26 when the Vikings host Lakeland University.
