APPLETON, Wis. -- Lawrence University dug in defensively Friday but couldn't crack the scoring column in a 3-0 nonconference loss to Saint Mary's University at the Appleton Ice Center.
The Cardinals scored once in each period while posting 59 shots. Lawrence goaltender
Charlie Prior was superb in net for the Vikings as she stopped 56 shots, one shy of her career from a season ago.
Saint Mary's scored just 37 seconds into the game on a goal from Jenna Kurkowski. Prior stopped 27 shots in the period for Lawrence (1-11-0). Lawrence nearly scored late in the first, but Saint Mary's goalie Jordan Keeley was able to turn aside a backhander in close to keep the Cardinals up 1-0 after one.
Anna Braun added a goal 2:25 into the second to put the Cardinals up 2-0 after two periods. Lawrence got a breakaway from
Lauren Askenazy in the third period, but Keeley again made the save to preserve the shutout. The Cardinals (2-9-0) added a goal from Sydney Green in the third period for the final margin.
Keeley finished with 15 saves to get the shutout.Â
Lawrence went 0-for-3 on the power play, and Saint Mary's was 0-for-4.
The teams wrap up the series on Saturday afternoon.
