APPLETON, Wis. -- What a difference a day makes.
Propelled by hot 3-point shooting on Saturday, the Lawrence University men's basketball team grabbed a key road win at Cornell College. The Vikings went cold from long distance on Sunday and dropped an 81-67 Midwest Conference game to the Rams on Sunday at Alexander Gymnasium.
Lawrence went just 8-for-37 (21.6 percent) from beyond the arc after hitting 14-of-28 3-pointers the day before.
  Lawrence star guard
Brad Sendell scored 33 points, his third 30-point game of the season, as he went 11-for-24 from the floor and 9-for-11 from the foul line. Sendell added eight rebounds, four assists and three steals.
Sendell pushed his career point total to 1,555 points, which ranks second in Lawrence history. He passed Ryan Kroeger (1,537) and Joel Dillingham (1,554) on Sunday. He is just 11 points away from passing three-time All-American Chris Braier (1,565) as the school's career scoring leader.Â
 Â
Kyle Lillwitz added eight points for the Vikings (10-13, 7-7 MWC), and
Matthew Kaznikov had seven.
Adnan Sarancic matched Sendell for game-high honors with eight rebounds for Lawrence.
Jordan Magnani led Cornell (15-7, 10-3) with 25 points.
Cornell got off to a good start and built a 20-7 lead with 12:30 left in the first half. The Rams pushed the lead to as many as 15 points before Lawrence went on a small run.Â
The Vikings trailed 33-18 when Sendell hit a jumper and
Julian DeGuzman followed with a 3-pointer. Sendell then got a steal and fastbreak layup, and Sarancic added a free throw to complete the 8-0 run and trim the lead to 33-26 with 4:59 left.Â
Cornell recovered and pushed the lead back to 39-26 at the half. The Rams opened the second half on a 14-4 run to open the advantage up to 53-30. Â
Lawrence later battled back into the game with a 9-2 run of its own. Sendell scored seven points in that run and
Elliot Jung added a layup off an assist from Sendell to trim the margin to 59-47 with 10:28 left in the contest.
The Vikings got as close as 61-50 after a Sendell 3-pointer from long range, but that's as close as they would get. The Rams kept Lawrence at arm's length the rest of the game.
Lawrence returns to action on Saturday when the Vikings host Illinois College in a key Midwest Conference contest as both teams are battling for a berth in the four-team conference tournament.
