APPLETON, Wis. -- A big second period was the difference Friday as the Lawrence University women's hockey dropped a 9-2 Northern Collegiate Hockey Association decision to Trine University at the Appleton Ice Center.
  After a scoreless opening period, the game was tied 1-1 when Trine scored four times to pull away. The Thunder scored six times in the second period and sealed the win with three more goals in the third.
  The Vikings got second-period goals from
Lauren Askenazy and
Delaney Kingsland.
  Lawrence goaltender
Charlie Prior stopped all 12 of Trine's shots in the opening period as the teams battled to a scoreless opening period.Â
  Trine then scored just 1:32 into the second period, but Lawrence answered with Askenazy's power-play goal off a pass from
Lindsey Gulliksen to tie it at 1-1 at the 5:26 mark. The Thunder then scored four times in a span of 6:56 to sprint to a 5-1 lead.Â
  Lawrence battled back when Kingsland scored on the power play off assists from
Beth McArthur and
Sofia Alvarez at the 16:06 mark to trim the lead to 5-2. Lawrence finished the game 2-for-3 on the power play.
  Trine picked up another goal 1:37 later to grab a 6-2 edge after two and put the game away in the third.
  Ryleigh Furlong made 14 saves to get the win for Trine. Prior finished 18 saves before giving way to
Maeve Tallman, who made 14 saves.
  The teams wrap up the series on Saturday afternoon.
