Lawrence nipped by Sabres

    FOND DU LAC, Wis. -- The Lawrence University women's hockey team dropped a tight 3-1 Northern Collegiate Hockey Association decision to Marian University on Friday at the Blue Line Ice Center.
    The game was tied 1-1 heading to the third period, but Marian scored early in the frame and added an empty-net goal with 17 seconds left to seal the victory.
    Lawrence (1-16-0, 0-8-0 NCHA) trailed 1-0 after Marian's Melodee Eastman scored at the 11:14 mark of the first, but the lead didn't last long.
    Lindsey Gulliksen scored for the Vikings at the 16:27 mark with assists going to Laney Martens and Maggie MacNeil to tie the game at 1-1. 
    The score stayed that way until early in the third period. Allie Kieffer scored just 2:26 into the period to give Marian a 2-1 edge. Lawrence got six shots on goal in the third and had a pair of power plays but couldn't cash in.
    Kayla Kolpitcke made 22 saves for Marian (6-10-1, 2-6-0), and Chasity Anderson stopped 40 shots for the Vikings.
