APPLETON, Wis. -- The Lawrence University women's hockey team scored a pair of third-period goals Saturday to pull away for a 3-1 Northern Collegiate Hockey Association victory over Finlandia University at the Appleton Ice Center.
Lawrence swept the two-game series, the first time in the program's short history the Vikings have recorded a series sweep.Â
Despite peppering the Finlandia net with more than 20 shots by early in the second period, the Vikings trailed 1-0 when Cassidy Becia scored for the Lions at the 12:10 mark of the second.
It didn't take long for Lawrence (3-16-0, 2-8-0 NCHA) to tie it up after a fine individual play from
Lindsey Gulliksen. Gulliksen stole the puck from a Finlandia defender near the boards and skated toward the net. Gulliksen's shot beat Finlandia goaltender Laney Pasemko at the 16:24 mark to tie the game at 1-1.
The score stayed that way until early in the third period.Â
 Â
Lauren Askenazy forced a Finlandia turnover, and she beat Pasemko for her first goal of the season and a 2-1 Lawrence lead at the 2:20 mark of the third.
The Vikings maintained the advantage and shut down the Finlandia offense for the remainder of the period. Finlandia managed just four shots on goal in the final period and 19 for the game. Lawrence recorded 28 shots in the third and finished with 65 for the game.
Lawrence then sealed the victory when Aislinn O'Hagen pounced on a rebound and scored at the 14:43 mark of the third.Â
The Lions were then whistled for two penalties in the final 3:03 to shut down any hopes of a comeback.
 Â
Charlie Prior picked up the victory in net as she stopped 18 shots for the Vikings. Pasemko made 62 saves for Finlandia (0-21-0, 0-12-0).Â
