Lawrence drops tight decision at UW-Superior

    SUPERIOR, Wis. -- The Lawrence University women's hockey team scored first Friday, but UW-Superior got the final two goals of the season opener and posted a 2-1 nonconference victory at Wessman Arena.
    Lawrence posted the first goal of the season when Sofia Alvarez lit the lamp off assists from Delaney Kingsland and Sophia Lacrecque at the 15:28 mark of the opening period.
    The score stayed that way until Cora Coz tied it for Superior at the 7:24 mark of the second period. The game was still tied 1-1 until Bryann MacLean scored just 1:22 into the third period to the put the Yellowjackets ahead.
    The Vikings pulled goaltender Sydney Seeley for the final 2:01 of the contest but couldn't get the equalizer with the extra attacker on the ice. 
    Seeley was outstanding in net for Lawrence as she stopped 30 of 32 shots. Rose Beeman made 18 saves to get the win for Superior.
    Both teams finished the night 0-for-3 on the power play.
    The teams wrap up the series Saturday afternoon.
