Lawrence rally comes up short at Concordia

MEQUON, Wis. -- The Lawrence University women's hockey team rallied Friday, but Concordia University Wisconsin pulled away for a 6-3 Northern Collegiate Hockey Association victory at the Ozaukee Ice Center.
Lawrence led 1-0 early before Concordia scored four consecutive goals. The Vikings pulled to within a goal heading to the third period, but Concordia scored twice in the final 20 minutes to seal the win.
Laney Martens scored twice for Lawrence (0-5-0, 0-3-0 NCHA), and Lauren Askenazy picked up the other tally for the Vikings.
Martens scored first off an assist by Valeria Ansoleaga just 4:22 into the game. That lead held up until the Falcons evened the score with 2:14 remaining in the opening period.
Concordia then scored three times in a span of 4:31 to pull out to a 4-1 lead at the 14:28 mark of the second.
Askenazy answered with a goal just 15 seconds later to slice the margin to 4-2. Martens then scored a short-hander with just 33 seconds left in the second period to trim the lead to 4-3 heading to the final period.
Concordia (2-5-0, 2-3-0) scored 32 seconds into the final period and then added a goal with 1:09 left for the final margin.
Lawrence's Sarah Dobrzynski made 33 saves for the Vikings, and Carolyn Bourgeault stopped 21 shots for the Falcons.
The teams wrap up the series Saturday afternoon at the Champion Center.
