Lawrence can't catch Foresters

APPLETON, Wis. -- The Lawrence University women's hockey team dropped a 6-1 Northern Collegiate Hockey Association decision to Lake Forest College on Sunday at the Appleton Ice Center.
The Foresters jumped out to a 3-0 lead after the opening period before adding a goal in the second and two more in the third. Lawrence picked up its goal early in the third period.
Lawrence goaltender Maeve Tallman, who was celebrated on Senior Day, stopped a season-best 55 shots for the Vikings (3-18-0, 2-10-0 NCHA). It was the second-highest save total of Tallman's career. Hannah Turnage made 13 saves to get the win for Lake Forest (11-7-3, 6-4-2).
The Foresters scored twice in the opening 5:45 to grab the early lead before adding a goal late in the first for a 3-0 edge. The Vikings came out strong in the second period, but Turnage made several big stops to keep Lawrence off the board.
The Vikings broke through at the 6:54 mark of the third when Delaney Kingsland won a face-off in the Lake Forest zone and kicked the puck back to Lauren Moravchik at the point. Moravchik's wrist shot threaded its way past several players and found the back of the net to trim the lead to 4-1.
The Foresters countered with goal midway through the period and added a power-play goal late for the final margin. Lawrence limited the Foresters to 1-for-14 (7.1 percent) on the power play in the two-game weekend series.
