CLERMONT, Fla. -- The Lawrence University softball team used timely hitting and a good pitching performance to post a 5-1 nonconference win over Keuka College on Thursday.
Lawrence scored five runs on just four hits, and
Xiomara Rueda-Marshall earned the victory with six-plus strong innings.
Rueda-Marshall scattered eight hits and allowed just one run. She struck out one and walked three.Â
 Â
Mikayla Jeneske went 3-for-3 and drove in a pair of runs for the Vikings (3-11).
Kourtney Mercer doubled, and
Janessa Gonzalez and
Gillian Guerriero both drove in a run for Lawrence.
Lawrence jumped on top in the bottom of the first when the Vikings loaded the bases on walks to Gonzalez, Jeneske and
Mattigan Haller. Guerriero bounced into a fielder's choice as Gonzalez scored for a 1-0 lead.
Mercer's one-out double got things started in the fourth. Villa then reached on an error that allowed Mercer to score for a 2-0 lead. After walks to
Mary Boyle and Rueda-Marshall to load the bases, Gonzalez's sacrifice fly scored Villa to put the Vikings up 3-0. Jeneske followed with a single to score Boyle, and Rueda-Marshall stole home for a 5-0 lead.
Keuka scored once in the sixth and still had the bases loaded before Rueda-Marshall got a groundout to end the inning. Â
The Wolves started the seventh with a bunt single and an infield single when
Lizzy Angemi came on in relief. After a single loaded the bases, Angemi struck out the next three batters to pick up the save.
The Vikings wrap up their spring break trip on Friday with a doubleheader against Bates College.Â
