Lawrence snares tie with Muskies

APPLETON, Wis. -- The Lawrence University men's soccer team battled to a 1-1 nonconference tie with Lakeland University on Thursday at Ron Roberts Field at the Banta Bowl.
Lakeland scored first, but Eamon Rougvie's goal late in the opening half tied the score for the Vikings (0-2-1).
After Michael Barragan's goal in the ninth minute gave Lakeland a 1-0 lead, the Vikings battled back.
Lakeland goalkeeper Ben Taylor came out of his box to grab a loose ball, but Rougvie won the footrace. Rougvie got to the ball about 25 yards from goal and popped it over Taylor's head. It found the back of the net at the 39:58 mark to tie the score at 1-1.
Both teams generated scoring chances in the second half but neither was able to score.
Nason Lancina was outstanding in net for the Vikings and made four saves, including one spectacular stop. Taylor didn't make a save for Lakeland in the first half, and Zach Heiman made two saves in the second half.
The Muskies held a slim 12-10 edge in shots.
