Lawrence powers to sweep of Spartans

    DUBUQUE, Iowa -- The Lawrence University men's hockey team jumped ahead early Saturday and went on to a 4-1 Northern Collegiate Hockey Association victory over the University of Dubuque at ImOn Arena.
    Lawrence scored just 22 seconds into the game and built a 3-0 lead early in the third period. The Vikings, who won 2-1 in overtime on Friday, completed a weekend sweep of the Spartans.
    Adam Brzezicki scored his second goal of the season just 22 seconds into the game to give Lawrence (6-12-1, 3-7-1 NCHA) a 1-0 edge. Jayden Jensen and Miles McCue picked up assists for the Vikings.
    PJ Noonan then got his first collegiate goal when he scored off passes from Cody Brekke and Jack Michels at the 9:38 mark of the first for a 2-0 advantage. 
    The score stayed that way until early in the third. The Vikings were on the penalty kill when Carter Cloutier scored a short-hander just 1:40 into the period. Ethan Beaumont and Hugh Anderson picked up assists as the Vikings pushed the advantage to 3-0. Dubuque went 0-for-6 on the power play.
    Dubuque got on the board at the 5:53 mark of the third, but the Vikings got that goal right back. Lawrence was on the power play when Cory Checco scored his seventh goal of the season at the 9:16 mark off assists from Cole Schneider and Cloutier. Lawrence went 1-for-9 on the power play.
    Nolan Mahaffey made 24 saves to pick up the victory for the Vikings. Chris Curr stopped 50 shots for Dubuque (1-15-2, 1-11-0). 
    Lawrence completely dominated the second and third periods. After outshooting the Spartans 11-10 in the first period, Lawrence piled up a 43-15 edge in shots in the final two periods. Lawrence had a 54-25 edge for the game.
