APPLETON, Wis. -- The Lawrence University women's soccer team dominated Saturday but needed a second-half goal to post a 2-1 Midwest Conference victory over Illinois College on Ron Roberts Field at the Banta Bowl.
  Lawrence (9-4-2, 4-0-1 MWC) scored on a penalty kick in the 61st minute to take the lead for good. The Vikings lead the conference standings with 13 points.
  Lawrence fired 14 shots in the opening half and forced Illinois College goalkeeper Sophia Kriegesmann to make 10 saves before the break.Â
  The Vikings got on the board when
Paige Ference scored her first goal of the season.
Jessica Smith's shot was saved by Kriegesmann, but Ference pounded the rebound into the back of the net for a 1-0 lead at the 27:15 mark.
  Illinois College (9-4-3, 1-2-2) tied the game early in the second half, but the Vikings would get a great scoring opportunity just six minutes later.

Natalie Linebarger was run over in the box by Kriegesmann, who received a yellow card on the play for the tackle, to draw a penalty kick. The Vikings attempted the kick, but Kriegesmann was called for moving before the kick, and the kick was tried again.

Ava Elders drilled a high shot past Kriegesmann at the 60:08 mark to give Lawrence a 2-1 advantage.Â
  Lawrence posted a 22-7 edge in shots for the match.Â

Ella Lysne made three saves for the Vikings, and Kriegesmann stopped 12 shots for the Lady Blues.
