Lawrence blanks Foresters in series finale

    APPLETON, Wis. -- The Lawrence University men's hockey team got off to a fast start Saturday and went on to a 4-0 Northern Collegiate Hockey Association over Lake Forest College at the Appleton Ice Center.
    Lawrence (3-2-1, 2-1-1 NCHA) scored in the game's opening minute and picked up a goal late in the opening period to ease out to a 2-0 advantage.
    Will Crull scored his second goal in as many games off a pass from Carter Cloutier to give Lawrence a 1-0 lead just 57 seconds into the game. Lawrence's Alex Hollands then scored with 1:23 left in the first period after a scramble in front of the net for a 2-0 lead.
    The Vikings then killed off four penalties in the second period to keep Lake Forest at bay. 
    Lawrence then stretched the lead early in the third period. Jack Michels scored off an assist from PJ Noonan at the 4:11 mark of the third for a 3-0 edge. Cloutier then sealed the win with a goal at the 9:04 mark off passes from Hollands and Ethan Beaumont.
    Nolan Mahaffey made 22 saves to record the shutout for Lawrence. Dylan Kruss stopped 25 shots for the Foresters (1-4-1, 0-3-1). 
    Lawrence picked up five points in the conference standings in the series. The Vikings earned three points with the win on Saturday and got two more with the shootout victory at Lake Forest on Friday.
