Vikings settle for weekend split with Marian

FOND DU LAC, Wis. -- The Lawrence University women's hockey team had to settle for a weekend split of its nonconference series with Marian University after falling 2-1 to the Sabres on Saturday at the Blue Line Ice Center.
Lawrence took the series opener 3-2 in overtime on Friday night.
Lawrence (5-8-1) grabbed the early lead when rookie forward Leina Quiniou scored her second goal of the season in the opening period. Quiniou scored off assists from Sofia Alvarez and Beth McArthur to give Lawrence a 1-0 lead with 8:01 left in the first.
The Sabres (4-7-0) bounced back on Jadyn Gorski's goal with 3:46 left in the first to tie the game. Marian then took the lead less than a minute later on Kaitlyn Quinn's goal for a 2-1 edge.
Lawrence got a chance to tie the game when the Vikings went on their only power play of the game at the 8:04 mark of the third period. Lawrence got only one shot on goal during the power play and later pulled goaltender Ella Sciborski for an extra attacker. The Vikings had an extra attacker for the final 1:43 but couldn't get the equalizer.
Sciborski finished with 34 saves for the Vikings, and Sydney Magnuson made 18 saves for Marian.
Lawrence takes a break for the holidays and doesn't return to action until Jan. 11.
