ADRIAN, Mich. -- The Lawrence University women's hockey team gave No. 5 Adrian College all it wanted Friday before the Bulldogs pulled away late for a 4-1 victory in a Northern Collegiate Hockey Association playoff opener.   Â
  Lawrence needs a victory Saturday in the second game of the Slaats Cup quarterfinal series to force a decisive mini-game.
  The Vikings hung with Adrian thanks to a first-period power-play goal.Â
  Adrian (24-2-0) had built a 2-0 lead with a pair of goals in the first 11 minutes of the game, but the Bulldogs' Aileena Dopheide was whistled for slashing at the 17:19 mark to put Lawrence (4-21-1) on the power play.
  The Vikings went to work, and
Lauren Moravchik scored on the ensuing power play at the 18:58 mark to slash the lead to 2-1.
Beth McArthur and
Lauren Askenazy both picked up assists on the goal.Â
  Lawrence finished 1-for-4 on the power play, and Adrian went 2-for-5.
  The score stayed 2-1 until less than eight minutes remained in the game. Adrian scored with 7:32 left to get some breathing room with a 3-1 lead, and the Bulldogs sealed the win with a power-play goal with 5:53 remaining.

Sarah Dobrzynski was outstanding in net for the Vikings as she stopped 59 shots. Annie Gilbert make 17 saves for Adrian.
