APPLETON, Wis. -- The Lawrence University baseball team scored four times in the seventh inning to take the lead Wednesday and went on to a 6-4 Midwest Conference victory over Beloit College at Don Hawkins Field.
Lawrence (24-8, 15-2 MWC) completed a three-game series sweep of Beloit (19-13, 12-9) and clinched a spot in the Midwest Conference Tournament.
The Vikings were down 4-1 heading to the bottom of the seventh when
Edan Perez started the rally with a one-out single.
Jacob Charon followed with a single, and
Zach Leslie smacked a double to score Perez to trim the lead to 4-2.
 Â
Taylor Freeman then hit a laser down the left field line to score Charon and Leslie to tie the game at 4-4. After
Ben Gutowski walked, there were a pair stolen bases to put runners at second and third.
William Zatkowski then bounced to first, and Freeman scored to give Lawrence a 5-4 edge.
Beloit loaded the bases in the top of the eighth with two outs against reliever
Brandon Brust. The Vikings brought in ace
Quinn Berglin, and he struck out Brett Kiger to end the threat.
Lawrence tacked on an insurance run in the eighth.
Parker Knoll ripped a one-out double, and Beloit intentionally walked Charon with two outs to pitch to Leslie. Leslie delivered with a single to right to score Knoll for a 6-4 advantage.
Berglin worked around a two-out single in the ninth to nail down his first save of the season.
Brust picked up the win with 2.2 innings of relief. He allowed one run on three hits, struck out four and walked four.
Charon went 3-for-4 and scored a run, and Leslie and Freeman both went 2-for-4 with a double two runs batted in and a run scored.Â
Lawrence returns to Midwest Conference action when it hosts Illinois College in a three-game series this weekend.
