Berglin, Vikings hurl shutout at Grinnell

GRINNELL, Iowa -- Mother Nature forced a change of venue on Friday, but that didn't bother the Lawrence University baseball team.
Snow in Wisconsin caused the three-game series to be moved to Grinnell College, but the Vikings rode the pitching of Quinn Berglin to a 9-0 Midwest Conference win at Pioneer Park.
Berglin scattered six hits over seven innings, struck out four and walked one to improve to 6-0 on the season.
The top of the order did all the damage for the Lawrence offense. Edan Perez went 3-for-4 with a homer and a double and drove in three runs for the Vikings (15-6, 7-0 MWC). Parker Knoll went 3-for-5 with two doubles, scored twice and drove in four runs for Lawrence. Lead-off hitter Taylor Freeman went 2-for-3 with a pair of doubles and scored three times.
Zach Leslie also had a multi-hit game for Lawrence as he went 2-for-4 and scored a run.
Lawrence took a 1-0 lead in the third when Freeman doubled, stole third and scored on a passed ball, but the Vikings started to pull away in the fifth.
Nick Heerde led off the fifth by reaching on an error, and Freeman followed with a double. Knoll followed with a two-run double for a 3-0 lead. Perez then blasted his fourth homer of the season, a two-run shot, to give Lawrence a 5-0 advantage.
Lawrence tacked on three more runs in the sixth when William Polanco and Freeman started the inning with walks. Knoll smacked another double to score both runners for a 7-0 lead. Perez followed with a single to score Knoll and the Vikings led 8-0.
Lawrence made it 9-0 in the seventh when Leslie singled and later scored on Knoll's single.
Ian Feld took the loss for Grinnell (9-11, 2-2) after going five innings. He allowed five runs on six hits, struck out eight and walked one.
The teams wrap up the series with a doubleheader on Saturday.
