APPLETON, Wis. -- The Lawrence University volleyball team dropped a tight 3-1 nonconference decision to Rockford University on Friday at Lawrence Triangular.
Rockford posted a 27-29, 25-23, 25-18, 25-22 victory over the Vikings at Alexander Gymnasium.
Margaret Hahnke had a career-high 34 kills for the Vikings and hit .284 for the match. It was a double-double for Hahnke, who picked up 16 digs to go along with one ace and one block.
First-year player Hazel Cook added a double-double of her own with 14 kills and 11 digs for the Vikings. Senior Aliana Butler-Gray picked up nine kills and nine digs for Lawrence.
Setter Cora Linos piled up 41 assists to go with 10 digs and five kills for the Vikings. Lawrence libero Daphne Piotrowski added 14 digs and four assists.
In a marathon first set, Rockford jumped out to a 6-0 lead, but the Vikings began chipping away at the advantage. Lawrence tied the set at 15-15, and it was back and forth from that point. Both teams had set points, and Rockford was up 27-26 when Lawrence tied it on a kill from Cook. After a Rockford error gave Lawrence a 28-27 lead, Hahnke closed out the opening set with a kill.
The second set was more of the same and the teams were tied at 15-15. Lawrence led 19-18 before Rockford scored the next four points. The Vikings trimmed the lead to 22-21 before the Regents scored three of the final five points to close out the set.
Rockford built a 19-13 lead in the third set, but Lawrence rallied to cut the advantage to 21-18. The Regents then won the next four points to close out the set.
In the final set, the teams traded the lead, and Lawrence grabbed a 22-21 advantage on a kill from Hahnke. The Regents then scored the next four points to close out the match.
