GRINNELL, Iowa -- The Lawrence University men's basketball team fell behind by double digits less than five minutes into the game Saturday and never fully recovered in a 109-86 Midwest Conference loss to Grinnell College at Darby Gymnasium.
The Pioneers raced out to a 16-4 lead and would build that advantage to as many as 30 points in the opening half before settling for a 68-42 lead at the break. Lawrence got as close as 18 points early in the second half, but the Vikings were never able to make a serious run at overtaking the Pioneers.
 Â
Casey Schoenecker led Lawrence (4-11, 2-4 MWC) with 18 points and added three rebounds.
Hogan Demovsky had a double-double of 15 points and 10 rebounds and also added four steals and a pair of assists.
Nicholas Gouriotis picked up 12 points, six rebounds and a pair of steals for the Vikings.
Lawrence did a nice job of limiting Grinnell's vaunted 3-point shooting to just 28.2 percent for the game. However, the Pioneers were sizzling from inside the arc as they hit 76.5 percent (26-for-34) of their 2-point attempts.
The Vikings shot just 43.3 percent from the floor and went 25-for-41 from the foul line (61 percent).
