APPLETON, Wis. --
Leina Quiniou's late goal gave the Lawrence University women's hockey team a 3-2 Northern Collegiate Hockey Association victory over Trine University on Friday at the Champion Center.
Quiniou scored with 3:02 left in the third period to break a 2-2 tie, and then the Vikings (6-9-1, 3-5-1 NCHA) held off Trine (5-9-2, 2-5-2) in the final minutes.
The game was tied midway through the third period when Lawrence began exerting pressure on the Thunder defense. Lawrence's
Lauren Askenazy got a pass from
Aislinn O'Hagan and cut to the back of the Trine net. Askenazy's centering pass found Quiniou, who flipped a shot into the right corner of the net to give the Vikings the lead for good.
Trine took a timeout with 1:45 remaining and pulled goaltender Annie Kindseth for an extra attacker. Lawrence did an outstanding job of containing Trine's attacker over the final 90 seconds and cleared the puck multiple times without taking an icing call.
  Lawrence goaltender
Sarah Dobrzynski made 19 saves to pick up the win, and Kindseth stopped 16 shots for Trine.Â
Lawrence grabbed an early 2-0 lead with a pair of goals late in the opening period. The Vikings grabbed the lead when
Sofia Alvarez cashed in on Lawrence's only power-play opportunity of the game. Alvarez scored her first goal of the season at the 14:50 mark of the first period off assists from O'Hagan and
Beth McArthur.Â
The Vikings quickly made it 2-0 when
Sena Hasegawa flipped the puck past Kindseth with 2:49 left in the first. Alvarez and
Lauren Moravchik both picked up assists on that goal.
Trine cut the lead to 2-1 on Payton Hans' goal midway through the second period, and Hans tied it with a goal at the 7:35 mark of the third.
The team wrap up the series on Saturday afternoon.
