Vikings lose tight contest to Foresters

APPLETON, Wis. — Lawrence University (0-7-0, 0-4-0) fell to Lake Forest College (6-0-0, 4-0-0), 2–1, in overtime at the Appleton Ice Arena. The Vikings took the first lead of the game in the third period but were unable to secure the win in the extra session.

The period began with the Foresters winning the initial faceoff. Lawrence's Leina Quiniou later secured a faceoff win that led to a power play opportunity after Lake Forest's Emma Sweeney was penalized for cross-checking at 6:31. Despite the advantage, the Vikings failed to capitalize, with shots from Kate Holtz and Sena Hasegawa missing the target. A late penalty shot awarded to Hasegawa at 19:35 also came up short as Lily Peterfeso made the save for Lake Forest. The period concluded scoreless, with both teams unable to find the back of the net.

The second period was marked by strong defensive efforts and missed opportunities, with neither team able to break the deadlock. The Foresters applied early pressure, but Lawrence's goaltender, Ella Sciborski, made several crucial saves, notably stopping consecutive attempts by Gracia Muñoz at 17:23 and 17:16. The Vikings countered with a power play opportunity at 2:44 following a hooking penalty on Lake Forest's Alex Luke, but the Foresters' penalty kill held firm, denying any scoring chances. The period concluded with no goals scored, as both teams remained in a stalemate heading into the final frame.

The third period began with Lawrence's Quiniou winning the opening faceoff, and Sciborski making multiple saves to fend off Lake Forest's early offensive pressure. At 6:36, Holtz put Lawrence ahead with an even-strength goal, assisted by Evelyn Pryadkin, marking her second goal of the season. However, Lake Forest responded at 16:35 when Victoria Liu scored, with assists from Delaney Zerfass and Shannon Gibbons, leveling the score. Despite a late power play opportunity for the Vikings following a tripping penalty on Willow Poppleton, the period ended 1–1, resulting in a draw.

In a tense overtime period, Lawrence gained initial control when Meg Landman won the opening faceoff against Jasmine Kohl. Pryadkin quickly tested Lake Forest's defense with a shot, but Peterfeso made the save at 4:39. Despite some pressure from the Foresters, including multiple saves by Sciborski and a key block by Reese Deibert, the game remained scoreless through the early overtime minutes. The breakthrough came at 3:02 when Ella Maher scored the sudden-death game-winning goal for Lake Forest, assisted by Kate Brennan, sealing a 2–1 victory.

Holtz scored one goal and achieved a faceoff win percentage of 75, contributing significantly to the team's offensive efforts. Pryadkin added an assist and maintained a positive plus-minus rating of +1. Quiniou won 11 faceoffs, posting a 55 percent success rate. Landman also excelled in the faceoff circle, winning 66 percent of her attempts.
