APPLETON, Wis. — Lawrence University fell to the Milwaukee School of Engineering (MSOE), 4-1, at home. The Vikings' lone goal came in the second period, but they could not overcome MSOE's two third-period scores.
The first period commenced with both Lawrence and MSOE vying for control. The Raiders' Emily Reiner consistently won faceoffs, setting up scoring opportunities for her team. Despite multiple shot attempts from players like Kiera Ballweg and Sara Kopf, MSOE was unable to capitalize. Lawrence had their chances as well, with
Meg Landman and
Kate Holtz testing MSOE's goalie, Alexa Novak, who stood firm with several key saves. Both teams managed to kill off penalties, with Lawrence effectively nullifying two Raiders power plays. The period concluded scoreless, with neither team finding the back of the net despite numerous opportunities.
Reiner opened the scoring in the second period for the Raiders at 15:01 with a power-play goal, assisted by Arial Lapsa. Shortly after, Hannah Baumann extended the lead to 2–0 with an even-strength goal at 12:05, aided by Ballweg and Kopf. With just over a minute remaining in the period,
Reese Deibert put Lawrence on the board with an unassisted goal at 18:49, closing the gap to 2–1. Despite Lawrence's late efforts, the Raiders maintained their one-goal advantage heading into the final period.
Lawrence faced off against the Raiders in the third period with the visitors leading 3–1. Early in the period, Lawrence's Deibert took a roughing penalty at 18:15, setting up a power play opportunity for the Raiders. MaryFrancis Williams capitalized on the advantage, scoring at 16:50 with assists from Lapsa and Amy MacDonald, extending the lead to 4–1. Lawrence pulled their goalie with 2:24 remaining in a bid to close the gap, but the Raiders' Helen Bechthold secured an empty-net goal at 1:57, sealing a decisive 4–1 victory for the visitors.
