Late goal sinks Vikings at home

APPLETON, Wis. — Lawrence University (0-12-0, 0-8-0) fell to Aurora University (4-8-0, 2-6-0), 3–2, at home on Saturday night. Despite the Vikings' strong faceoff performance, winning 63% of draws, the Spartans secured the victory with a last-period goal.

Lawrence began the first period with control, winning multiple faceoffs and maintaining possession early on. Despite their efforts, Aurora's Courtney Docktor scored at 17:48, assisted by Emiliana Cassillo and Payton Dykstra, giving the Spartans the lead. The Vikings responded by winning faceoffs and generating shots, including an attempt by Sullivan Gillis, but Aurora's goalie, Macy Blooming, made the save. Lawrence earned a power-play opportunity midway through the period but was unable to capitalize. Ella Sciborski effectively countered Aurora's offensive attempts with several saves. Despite their defensive efforts and the ability to control faceoffs, the Vikings trailed 1-0 at the end of the first period.

Lawrence capitalized on a power-play opportunity midway through the second period, as Emmerson Berger netted the equalizer with assists from Sena Hasegawa and Meg Landman at 3:06. The team showed strong defensive resilience, successfully killing two penalties earlier in the period, with Sciborski making crucial saves to maintain the tie. Despite sustained offensive efforts from both teams, the period closed with the score level at 1–1.

The Vikings began the third period with strong faceoff control, winning multiple draws to establish early possession. Despite solid defensive efforts, including several blocked shots by Evelyn Pryadkin and Sophia Labrecque, the Spartans capitalized midway through the period with a goal by Ellie Krueger, extending their lead to 2–1. In the final minutes, Lawrence applied offensive pressure, taking advantage of a power-play opportunity. However, Aurora managed to add an empty-net goal by Keilana Schmidt. With just five seconds remaining, Landman scored for the Vikings, assisted by Josie Daly, narrowing the gap. The game ended with Lawrence trailing 3–2.
