Vikings fall on the road to Augsburg

MINNEAPOLIS — Lawrence University (0-13-0) fell to #3/3 Augsburg University (9-2-1), 6–1, on Sunday. The Vikings' lone goal came in the third period.

The first period commenced with the Vikings winning the opening faceoff, setting a determined tone. Despite a strong defensive effort from Sarah Dobrzynski, who made multiple saves, the Auggies maintained pressure. Lawrence's defensive lineup, including significant blocks from Ashley Slupe and Teresa Topolski, worked diligently to contain the home team's offensive efforts. Midway through the period, the Auggies capitalized with a goal by Emma Abrahamson at 16:38, assisted by Aunna Schulte and Mei Diesing. The Vikings continued to battle, but the period closed with the Auggies leading 1-0. Lawrence would look to equalize in the upcoming period.

The second period began with the home team quickly capitalizing on a power play opportunity, as Schulte scored just 13 seconds into the period, extending their lead. Despite continuous pressure from Augsburg, Lawrence's defense, particularly Dobrzynski, managed multiple saves to keep the score from widening further. Midway through the period, Augsburg struck again with an even-strength goal by Adelyn Milota, followed by another goal from Kate Haug, which increased their advantage. The Vikings had efforts from Sullivan Gillis and Emma Perry, but their attempts were saved by Augsburg's goalie, Lauren Lafferty. The period closed with Lawrence trailing 4–0.

The third period began with Augsburg extending their lead early when Haug scored at 18:25, assisted by Ruby Eskin. The Vikings responded promptly at 17:10 with a goal from Kate Boberg, assisted by Leina Quiniou, narrowing the deficit to 5–1. However, Augsburg capitalized again at 5:26 with a goal by Nora Stepan, assisted by Haug and Eskin, restoring their lead. Throughout the period, Lawrence faced consistent offensive pressure but managed to block several attempts and secure saves, notably by Dobrzynski. Despite an active defensive effort, the period closed with Augsburg maintaining a 6–1 advantage and a win for the home team.
