APPLETON, Wis. -- The Lawrence University men's basketball team rallied from a 16-point second-half deficit on Saturday against Cornell College but came up short in an 84-78 Midwest Conference loss to the Rams at Alexander Gymnasium.
    The Vikings trimmed Cornell's lead to one with just over three minutes left before the Rams held on for the victory.
    
Nolan Koch came off the bench to score a team-high 18 points Vikings as he went 6-of-9 from the floor and 6-for-6 from the foul line.
    
Casey Schoenecker added 17 points, seven assists, two blocks and two rebounds for Lawrence (6-18, 4-11 MWC). 
Caleb Nash picked up 12 points, five rebounds and three assists for the Vikings, and 
Nicholas Gouriotis had 11 points and three rebounds. 
    Jayden Meeker led Cornell (14-9, 8-6) with 26 points and 12 rebounds.
    The Vikings trailed by as many as 16 points in the second half and were still down 66-51 with 10 minutes remaining. 
    Lawrence then scored the game's next nine points with Schoenecker and 
Nathan Valentine hitting back-to-back layups to get things started. Gouriotis then hit a 3-pointer and Nash followed with a layup to trim the lead to 69-60.
    After a Cornell 3-pointer, Gouriotis buried a triple and Nash hit a 3-pointer to cut the margin to 71-69. Lawrence then got back-to-back layups from Schoenecker that cut the lead to 74-73 with 3:16 left.
    Lawrence missed its next two shots from the floor, and Cornell was able to hit four consecutive free throws to pull out to a 78-73 advantage. The Vikings got no closer than four points the rest of the way.
